Women in Thai Society, Restrictions and Pressures?

Frankly I've had it up to my eyeballs with it this trip. I'm not a hairy feminist or anything but bugger me...I think I'm going to get violent soon.

I know about all that Thai culture business but to a point it just gets offensive.

The other day I was sitting in the back of a taxi and this driver was just being a complete PIG. "Pretty ladies are my weak point. I just can't help myself when I see a pretty lady, and there's something about a farang woman that gets me all excited, Thai women are hot but farang women are hotter and Luk Krueng make me sweaty...."

There's alot of points to touch on there but I'll leave it to you.

But there's other stuff...like all that "You're a woman, you should be more inept to do this and that...(cleaning and cooking), men have more responsibilities so they don't have the time..." Seriously wtf...it seems like there's always someone behind you to remind you, you're a woman and that there are things YOU SHOULD do...

AND the pressures that are put on Thai women by society specifically on how to look, white and COMPLETELY flawless skin, 23 inch waist, glossy long flowing hair, perfectly formed limbs, dress all cutie patootie or just plain old riep roy...it just seems that Thai society is alot more critical of how women look compared to the UK.

And the fact that going anywhere in Thailand as a woman by yourself without a car is practically going out and asking to be raped by some people because there are so many khon rai out there...well why should I have to sacrifice my freedom because society has let it's problems manifest....i mean ordinarily I wouldn't walk many places at night in the UK, but I could grab a cab, or walk down the road and feel safe.

This is just incoherent rambling and ranting here. BUT ARGH!
